So her official title is ‘Culinary Director’ yet anyone who has ever had the pleasure of working with her in a large-scale event of any description, will tell you that her title should be something more like “Culinary Commander in Chief”. There is no one, no one in this country more skilled at creating catering genius for crowds of any size than Ruth Pretty MNZM. Hence why she’s been the culinary director for this event since its inception in 2001. Ruth is one of New Zealand’s best-known food personalities, regularly appearing on TV, radio and in magazine spreads. Her core business also extends beyond her highly successful catering company she runs with her equally dynamic husband Paul, to a popular cooking school, kitchen shop, her own branded range of preserves, Christmas cakes and cookbooks.
Command Central is Ruth’s idyllic 27-acre rural property ‘Springfield’ in Te Horo, which sits on the Kapiti Coast, an hour’s drive north of Wellington. Ruth and Paul also open Springfield as a venue for special events, parties and her famously relaxed yet luxe weddings.
In addition to being superhuman, she is also super-friendly and if you ask really nicely she has been known to give out her famous scone recipe.
